Meet The Artist
Heather Cloud
Meet Heather Cloud, a vibrant artist and proud Thunder clan member of the Ho-Chunk Nation, known by her Ho-Chunk name, Wakajapi. With a passion for Indigenous arts ignited at just ten years old, Heather has been weaving her cultural heritage into beautiful creations for over three decades. Under the nurturing guidance of her grandmother, Ruth Cloud, she mastered the art of beading, starting with charming daisy chain bracelets and evolving into stunning medallions and intricate regalia.
By the age of thirteen, Heather expanded her creative horizons to sewing, crafting everything from stylish accessories to traditional outfits. Today, she showcases her skills in industrial and commercial sewing, specializing in creating Indigenous dwellings that honor her culture.
Heather, a U.S. Navy Veteran, is not only a talented artist but also a dedicated community leader. She coordinates events and classes that celebrate and sustain Indigenous culture, promoting well-being and connection among community members. Currently enrolled in the First Nations Studies program at the University of Wisconsin Green Bay, she is enhancing her knowledge to further empower her community through culture sharing and advocacy for Indigenous peoples.
With her vibrant spirit and commitment to her heritage, Heather Cloud is a shining example of how art can uplift and unite. Keep an eye on her journey as she continues to inspire and innovate!
